Fall 2015 Club Spotlight – MMA

Congratulations to MMA for being named a Club Sport of the Month in the Fall 2015 semester! Club president, Lorenzo Smith, was interviewed and offered some great information about the club.

  1. When was your club established at Georgia Southern University and what is the tradition your team has?
    • It started as the jiu jitsu around 2009 and our tradition is on the back of our shirts which reads, “The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in battle”
  2. Why do you like playing club sports at Georgia Southern University?
    • It’s a fun way get rid of stress and meet people that are different from you
  3. What is it like to travel and play different schools?
    • We have never competed against another school because there aren’t many other MMA programs , but I hope we can compete with other schools soon
  4. What is your best memory while playing in tournaments/competitions this semester?
    • My best memory is preparing other members of the club for fights that they had this semester
  5. How does someone go about joining your team?
    • Come to the combat room at the RAC MondayThursday at 8pm ready to work and learn
  6. How can they find out more information? Are there tryouts?
    • The Facebook page (Georgia Southern MMA Club) is the best place to  find information on our club and we don’t have tryouts to train with us but if you wanna compete under our name we have a tryout you have to complete
  7. Does your team have any recent special achievements? If so, what are they?
    • We just had a fighter who help found the club become a professional fighter and we have at least two more that should soon follow
