Student Employment

Campus Recreation and Intramurals (CRI) hires over 350 student employees to assist in the execution of the campus recreation program for the Georgia Southern community. Students play a vital role in providing the highest quality and most dependable service. We strive to find the best students to assist us in fulfilling our mission and exemplify our core values of safe, clean, quality, dependable and fun programs and services.

CRI has established a process to seek applications from those interested in working. The Job Fair, as it is referred, takes place during the fall and spring semesters. During this time, positions are posted with the Student Employment Center (SEC) on the Georgia Southern Human Resources web page.

Applications may only be submitted and accepted via the online submission process established by Human Resources. To find the jobs available, please use “CRI” in the position title search box. CRI requires each applicant to submit a cover letter and resume in addition to the application itself. It is encouraged that the applicant read the job description and minimum requirements of each position before applying. You must apply by the deadline listed as there are no exceptions to accepting applications after the deadline. The entire process takes approximately 8 weeks to complete which includes application review, informational meetings, skill testing, interviews and final selections.

In order to apply, the applicant must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours at Georgia Southern.


The following are entry-level positions that we have at CRI:

Audio/Video Media Assistant

Responsible for developing and creating informative, dynamic and engaging marketing assets and audiovisual resources. Will maintain the quality of the CRI brand through the positive promotion of our programs, services, staff and facilities. Applicants typically major in Photography, Videography, Film, Graphic Design, Art or a relevant Communications field. Applicants should also have a basic understanding of Apple computers and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Club Sports Supervisor

Our Club Sports Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and supervising the Clubs Sports teams and participants. Primary responsibilities of this role include providing customer service, assisting with club programs and activities, as well as maintaining a safe environment for all club participants.

Fitness Specialist

Our Fitness Specialist team is responsible for supervising the 18,000 square foot Fitness Center to maintain a safe and effective workout environment for CRI patrons. Primary responsibilities of this role include providing customer service, assisting with proper fitness equipment use and technique, as well as maintaining overall Fitness Center cleanliness.

Golf Course Clubhouse Attendant
Attendant works in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Setup and close of pro shop; answer telephones, make reservations and check-in customers; receive and process merchandise. Take daily and monthly inventory and select/re-order inventory. Display merchandise and promote merchandise sales, golf clinics and golf tournaments and various events.
  2. Responsible for daily setup of Golf Carts; clean and maintain golf carts, setup and maintain driving range.
  3. Responsible for daily setup and breakdown of Self Service Food Area. Handle light food preparation and customer transactions. Maintain service area cleanliness and replenishment. Ensure Health Codes and Food Safety Procedures are followed.
Golf Course Maintenance Greenskeeper
Responsible for the performance of daily and scheduled maintenance of the golf course utilizing riding and push mowers, gas powered trimmers, weed eaters, and backpack blowers; perform bunker maintenance and landscaping; assist with the application of fertilizers; assist with the removal of fallen or broken limbs, and the trimming of existing trees utilizing pole saws; install, maintain, and prune landscape plants; address and properly refer maintenance concerns to golf course superintendent in a timely manner; set-up of golf course for daily play and special events as needed; responsible for following safety and risk management procedures; will be required to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
Graphic Designer

The job of the graphic designer is to develop and create informative, dynamic and engaging marketing assets and visual resources. The graphic designer is responsible for maintaining the quality of the CRI brand through the positive promotion of our programs, services, staff and facilities.

Group Fitness Instructor

Our Group Fitness Instructors are enthusiastic and motivating individuals who lead fun, safe, and effective exercise classes in a variety of formats, such as indoor cycling, Zumba, Pilates, yoga, cardio fitness, strength training, and aqua aerobics. Primary Responsibilities include programming and teaching fitness classes, customer service, and assisting with special events. All Group Fitness Instructors are required to attain a nationally recognized certification. Certifications are not required prior to hiring. Instructors will earn certifications by attending a workshop and/or studying for an exam after hiring. Instructors will attend in-house training to prepare for certifications.

Intramural Sport Official**

Our Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for officiating intramural contests and assisting in game management of intramural sports including flag football, basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and other activities.  Officials are asked to demonstrate rules knowledge, enforce program rules and policy, assist in managing recreational facilities, and provide high levels of customer service to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for intramural participants. Previous officiating experience is not required but an interest in sports is encouraged.

Intramural Sports Scorekeeper

Our Intramural Sports Scorekeepers are responsible for keeping score and player statistics, and assisting in game management and administration of intramural sports including flag football, basketball, softball, and other activities.  Scorekeepers are asked to demonstrate an understanding of program policy, knowledge of sports rules, assist in managing recreational facilities, and provide high levels of customer service to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for intramural participants. Previous scorekeeping experience is not required but an interest in sports is encouraged.

Intramural Sports Supervisor

Our Intramural Sports Supervisor is responsible for the nightly supervision and administration of all intramural sports activities including flag football, volleyball, indoor and outdoor soccer, basketball, softball, ultimate frisbee, and other activities.  Supervisors are asked to demonstrate a thorough understanding of and ability to enforce program policy, manage intramural scorekeepers and officials, oversee recreational facilities, and provide high-levels of customer service to create a safe, high quality, and enjoyable atmosphere for intramural participants. Intramural Sports Supervisors are required to have previous work experience as an official or scorekeeper.

Lifeguard

Lifeguards at the Recreation Activity Center are responsible for the safety of everyone in the Aquatic center. This includes two outdoor pools, two indoor pools, and a sauna. In addition to patron surveillance lifeguard staff have opportunities to instruct swim classes and as needed.

Facility Maintenance Assistant
Responsible for the performance of daily and scheduled maintenance in conjunction with RAC indoor and outdoor facilities and on fitness and open recreation equipment; address and properly refer maintenance concerns to appropriate entities in a timely manner; set-up and take down of free play, program area equipment, and special events as needed. Completion of other tasks/assignments as assigned.
Member Services Assistant

Member Service Office Assistants are responsible for providing quality customer service when answering telephones, assisting patrons with memberships, and providing information to students, faculty and staff. Member Services Office Assistants will provide support for all CRI program areas through registration and information dissemination about their programs.

Personal Trainer

Our Personal Trainer team designs individual exercise programs to assist clients in accomplishing their fitness goals. Primary responsibilities of this role include building rapport with clients, evaluating each client’s baseline fitness level, and prescribing safe and effective exercise programs tailored to the individual. All CRI Personal Trainers must possess a Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized organization.

Public Relations

The job of the public relations position is to communicate the CRI brand, values, mission, programs, and services to the students, staff, and faculty of Georgia Southern, as well as the community at-large. This position is responsible for engaging these audiences through: special events, programming, media relations, writing and public speaking.

Recreation Facility Assistant

The Facility Assistant is responsible for the overall operation of the Front Desk and/or Equipment Desk, depending on the type of shift they are working that day.  Primary responsibilities include providing exceptional customer service, administrative tasks, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility and enforcing all policies and procedures.

Recreation Facility Manager

The Facility Manager will work evening/peak and weekend hours supervising and managing facilities in conjunction with the Facility Supervisor.  The Facility Manager will also play an integral role in the special event operation, as he/she will serve as an event facilitator for evening and weekend events.  The Facility Manager will spend the majority of their time supervising participants both indoor, as well as, CRI outdoor facilities when in use. Facility Manager candidates must have worked within a CRI program area for a minimum of one year prior to consideration for the position.

Recreation Facility Supervisor

The Facility Supervisor is responsible for all facility event operations and facility staff during daily operations. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising event set-up and take-down, conflict management, serving as a first responder and maintaining overall building cleanliness and safety. To serve as a Facility Supervisor an individual must have served as a facility assistant for a minimum of one semester.

Shooting Sports Assistant

The Shooting Sports Assistant is responsible for supervising a 16 lane firing range and 16 lane archery center.  Primary responsibilities include providing quality customer service, working as a Range Safety Officer, providing instruction in archery and firearms as well as maintain a friendly and safe environment for all to enjoy the shooting sports.

Southern Adventures Attendant

Our Southern Adventures Attendants are responsible for the varied areas of Southern Adventures.  Primary responsibilities include rental center operations, climbing wall operations, as well as high and low challenge course facilitation.  Southern Adventures Attendants have the option to become trip leaders.

Southern Adventures Bike Mechanic

Southern Adventures Bike Mechanics are responsible for the operation of the Southern Adventures Bike Shop.  Primary responsibilities include maintaining our fleet of approximately 110 Campus Cycle Bikes as well as performing maintenance on customer bikes.  Southern Adventures Bike mechanics have the option to become trip leaders.

Web Media Assistant

The job of the Web Media Assistant is to develop the on-line presence of CRI. This position will promote the CRI brand, values, mission, programs, services, staff and facilities by developing web pages, content, and images according to, and in keeping with, a template developed by Georgia Southern University.

Wellness Program Assistant

The Wellness team is responsible for the planning and promotion of wellness programs that represent 7 different dimensions of wellness. Primary responsibilities of this role include marketing via social media and print platforms, writing blogs and assisting with the creation and implementation of programs such as Wellness Week, Campus Farmers Market and Blood Drives. This position requires previous experience with CRI and/or The University Wellness Program.
