Golf Course Staff
Marten Olsson joined Georgia Southern University in the spring of 2013, overseeing the operations of the Golf Course at University Park. As a graduate of Pan American University, Marten was a member of their college team from 1982 – 1986, holding their scoring record for fifteen years at 9 under par for 54 holes. In 2004, Marten became the Head Professional and General Manager at Canongate at River Forest Golf Club in Forsyth, GA. He was chosen as the Golf Professional of the Year for the Central Chapter of Georgia PGA in 2009. Marten specializes in tournaments, events, club management, equipment advice and fitting, teaching, and growing the game for all ages.
Patrick Reinhardt joined as the Golf Course Superintendent in 2011. Prior to coming to Georgia Southern University, Patrick was the Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at the Standard Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. He graduated with a degree in Crop and Soil Science Turfgrass Management from Michigan State University. He is a Class A Superintendent through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and has been a member since 2001. He now serves on the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association Board of Directors.
Gretchen joins the Georgia Southern Golf Course with nine years of experience in the golf industry. She was most recently the Assistant Professional at The Club at Savannah Quarters. During her three years at Savannah Quarters, Gretchen coordinated all merchandising and tournament operations and doubled participation in Ladies and Couples events.
Prior to her time at Savannah Quarters, Gretchen served with OC Welch Golf properties in the greater Savannah area and the Sandpiper / Caloosa Golf Club cooperative just south of Tampa Bay, Florida.
Gretchen is a respected golf instructor with an energy to share her passion for golf.
John Kafader joined Georgia Southern University in June 2015 as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and leads the golf course turf staff in its day-to-day operations. He graduated with a Turfgrass Management degree from the Professional Golf Turf Management School at Rutgers University. He was awarded the Paul DesChamps Scholarship Award from the New Jersey Turfgrass Association. He is an active member of both the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the Georgia Golf Course Superintendents Association.
