Crunch Time

by Tyler Burroughs, Intramural Sports Graduate Assistant

Ladies and Gentlemen…. its the last week of the regular season. This means that some of our teams will be taking their games easy to tune-up for the playoffs, some will be looking to win to move to a more favorable spot in the rankings, some will… desperately need a win to be tournament eligible, and some will not care at all because they’ve all but been eliminated. Let’s take a look at some of the more intriguing storylines going into this week.

Photo Finish

If you are a fan of meaningful regular season games, look no further than the Men’s Recreational League.  In Men’s Rec 8, A Basketball Team and Danny Glover are sitting at 1-2, meaning they would need a win to even be considered for a tournament spot.  Lucky for us spectators, they meet in the last game for what is now essentially an elimination match-up for both teams.  On the other end of the spectrum, #TeamFainNotBurroughs and FDB will square off to decide who will end up on top of Mens Rec 6.  Both teams are undefeated going into the game and are only separated by 0.4 points in the (admittedly confusing) “IMonline rating index.”

Girl Power

Pippen Ain’t Easy and BangBang have been running the Women/Sorority league all year, with Team HK close behind.  With those teams sporting 2-0, 2-0, and 2-1 records respectively, the last day of women’s hoops (which sees many teams playing doubleheaders) will definitely be an interesting one.  Pippen and BangBang Will meet in the first of their doubleheaders, meaning that Team HK could easily take advantage of a loss on either end and move up in the Women’s rankings (assuming they also win).

(H) oops…

In Men’s Competitive 1, every reasonable person thought that Team would cruise to the top of the league and waltz into the playoffs as a division winner and thus earning a high(er) seed.  Then a funny thing happened.  They met Day 1’s and struggled to score….and lost.  Now they find themselves in a three-way tie for first in the division with Day 1’s and Dilligaf (who beat Day 1’s in epic fashion earlier this year).  Oh yeah, Team faces Dilligaf in the last game of the regular season, which brings me to my next point…
