The Sport Report: Basketball Primer

The Sport Report
Basketball Primer

The weather has turned cold (at least by southern standards) and everyone is trying to stay indoors as much as possible. Lucky for us, the prime time sport for this time of year is also indoors. That’s right, it’s Basketball season. If last year’s season was any indication…, we are all in for a treat for this season. I’ll save the formalities and get straight to making a few predictions of varying degrees of brashness.

CoRec
Last year, there were three teams that ruled all of CoRec Basketball. The championship game turned out to be one of the more hotly contested games at the end of the season. This year, only Team HK and returning champ maeT stand out. They squared off in the first game of the season and maeT came away with an 8-point victory. I imagine they’ll meet again in the playoffs, hopefully in the championship game.

Women’s
Once again, our Women’s division is a combination of our sorority league and our women’s league. This is rather unfortunate for all of the sorority teams, as there are two clear contenders for the title and neither of them have Greek letters attached to their name. FBxGB and Team Jordan will run away with the regular season and – barring a catastrophe – will meet in the championship. If I had to pick a dark horse coming from the sororities, I’d go with Kappa Delta. They were able to hang with FBxGB for a good portion of their game and then demolished AoPi.

Mens
I’ll start by simply saying that 1017 Bricksquad is still my pick to win it all. This is in spite of the fact that Shots Fired has won both the Fall Classic and the Pre-Season Tournament. This is also in spite of the fact that there are a few teams lurking just beneath them that have the capability to get hot at the right time. This is also in spite of the fact that Team has put together a very well-rounded roster and looks very dangerous this year. This season should be good.

As always, follow us on twitter @GSUIntramurals. Shout out your teammates and tweet us pictures that can be featured on our new GSUIntramurals Instagram! If you have any opinions about the predictions, let your voice be heard! We are always open to dialogue. Last but certainly not least, TEAM UP!
